SIGNED FOR SETTING UP REFINERY-CUM-PETRO CHEMICAL COMPLEX IN RAJASTHAN

Jaipur, March 14th. A Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) was signed between the Government of Rajasthan and Hindustan Petroleum
Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) here at the conference hall in Chief Minister's Office
on Thursday for setting up a state-off-the-art 9 MMTPA Refinery-cum-Petroleum
Complex in Barmer.
The MoU was signed in presence of Union Petroleum
and Natural Gas Minister Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, Chief Minister Shri Ashok
Gehlot and Union Minister of State for Petroleum Smt. Panabaka Lakshmi. Secretary,
Petroleum and Mining Department of Rajasthan Shri Sudhansh Pant and Director
(Refinery) HPCL Shri K. Murali signed the MoU.
Chief
Minister Shri Ashok Gehlot termed the day as the historical one and said the
Refinery-cum-Petro Chemical Complex will pave way for the growth and
development of State.
Shri Gehlot said after the independence it will be
the biggest investment in the State of Rajasthan.
He said industries will be set up and people will get employment on a large
scale. He said efforts will be made to ensure that the Refinery could be set up
in a time bound manner. He assured that the farmers will get proper compensation
for their land acquired.
The
Chief Minister said the Union Minister for Petroleum has directed the Chairman
and MD of HPCL to work on the model of Manglore Refinery to provide training to
the youth of the State so that skill could be developed among them and
employment could be provided.
Shri Gehlot said this historic occasion has come
after many years and it will pave way for the refinement of the crude oil
explored in the State. He said Rajasthan shares 20 percent of the total crude
oil produced in the country. He was thankful to the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan
Singh, UPA Chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Petroleum Minister Dr. M. Veerappa
Moily and HPCL Management.

Mentioning the cooperation provided by Dr. Moily
in the development of the State when he was Union Energy Minister Shri Gehlot
said the relation of Rajasthan and Karnataka has strengthened. The former Union
Railway Minister Shri C. K. Jaffar Sharif had also given significant
contribution in the expansion of rail services in the State and he also
belonged to Karnataka, he added.
The Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dr.
M. Veerappa Moily on this occasion had all praise for the Chief Minister Shri
Ashok Gehlot. He said due to his untiring efforts of Shri Gehlot the long
cherished dream of having Refinery in Rajasthan has realized. He said the
proposed Refinery with an estimated capital investment of Rs. 37,230 crores will
provide employment to about one lakh people directly or indirectly. He said the
huge investment will usher the economic growth of the State and will play pivotal
role in moving the State ahead on the path of prosperity.
Dr. Moily was hopeful that the project will be
completed by 2016-2017 and it will provide employment to the local people. He
said it will also pave way for setting up other industries and will bring
properity in Rajasthan. He said the day will be remembered as the day of
development in the history of the State of Rajasthan.
Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural
Gas Smt. Panabaka Lakshmi assured the Govt. of Rajasthan and HPCL that
necessary support will be provided by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural
Gas. She said the Refinery will help in bringing additional revenue for the
State and provide employment opportunity to the people.
The Mining and Industry Minister of Rajasthan Shri
Rajendra Pareek, Chairman & MD of HPCL Shri S. R. Choudhary and Special
Secretary in Petroleum Ministry Dr. Sudheer Bhargava also expressed their views
on this occasion.
